Yellowstone Expedition 2

Ms. Kern is hosting an informational meeting about the Fall Break Yellowstone National Park Trip on Thursday, February 19th at 6:30 pm. This virtual meeting will take place on Zoom and you can find the link on posters around the school. If you're interested in scientific research in this amazing location, please attend the meeting or see Ms. Kern in B204 for more information.

AHS Students Aid Recruitment Efforts

Four Mechanical & Architectural Design students, under the guidance of their teacher Cory Falk and in partnership with Director of HR Kristin Williams, have made a major contribution to ACSC's teacher recruitment efforts.

Attend Speech & Debate Showcase Night

Marching Black & Gold Honored at Statehouse

The Avon Marching Black & Gold were honored at the Indiana Statehouse for their third consecutive (sixth overall) Grand National Championship and 18th Indiana State Championship.

Celebrating Orioles - February, 2026

At the February, 2026, board meeting, we celebrated two special groups of students from Avon Middle School West and one overachieving Orchestra educator at Avon High School.

Pack The Pantry Night at AHS

The AHS Student Athlete Leadership Team invites you to join them as they pack the Mary Lee Maier Community Pantry as the Avon Orioles take on the Decatur Central Hawks on February 10. Students enter FREE with donations.

AHS Hosts State Debate Tourney, Finishes 5th

The Avon High School Debate team, in just its sixth year of existence, hosted the State Debate Tournament and finished 5th out of the 35 schools that participated. Numerous individual debaters had strong showings.

Joel Powell Announced as AHS Director of Orchestras

Joel Powell has been announced as the new Director of the state champion AHS Orchestra program. He will receive the baton from retiring Director and founder Dean Westman at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

These Shining Lives

Avon High School Thespian Troupe 8320 presents These Shining Lives, our winter studio play - based on a true story about young women working in a factory in the 1920s and the consequences of unsafe conditions.

Performances are Friday, Feb 6 at 7:00 PM, Saturday, Feb 7 at 7:00 PM, and Sunday, Feb 8 at 3:00 PM in the Black Box Studio (F127) across from the FACS rooms—enter through Door 43.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and will be sold at the door or at avonhs.booktix.com. Seating is limited due to the smaller space, so be sure to get tickets early.

Please note: due to mature themes, this production is intended for young adult to adult audiences, not young kids.

AHS Senior Wins Lilly Scholarship

Avon High School senior Dheer Pandya is one of three Hendricks County members of the class of '26 who have earned the prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

Rotary Announces Speech Contest Winners

The Avon Rotary held its annual Speech Contest on January 20. Each of the top-three finishers, Alisha Beg, Andrew Onochie, and Santiago Jimenez Butcher, are award-winning members of the AHS Speech & Debate Team.

Broadcasting Bootcamp

Registration is underway for Broadcasting Bootcamp. Students entering 7th, 8th, and 9th grade are eligible to attend this June 25-6 summer camp experience at AHS.

New Year Interact Club Meeting

AHS Senior Joins 1,000-Point Club

Avon High School senior Jedidiah Minnett became the 9th student-athlete in the history of the AHS boys basketball program to join the 1,000-point club.

2026 Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship Recipients

Three Avon educators — Dina Gulley and Devin Noyes of Avon High School and Sam Smith of River Birch Elementary School — have been welcomed into the Lilly Endowment's Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program for 2026.

Indiana's High School Orchestra Teacher of the Year

AHS Associate Director of Orchestras and Director of String Activities Joel Powell was named the Indiana High School Orchestra Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

Yellowstone Expedition 2

Autumn in Yellowstone National Park is an exciting season. When you travel and learn with EPI, you'll go beyond what most park visitors see by working with park researchers to study bison and other animals, hiking along scenic trails to explore fall and winter ecology, learn about the park's geothermal features and head to the iconic Lamar Valley for a morning of wolf observation. 25/26 Strive Vocational Open House

It was one of our favorite events of the year (yes, we have a lot of favorites!) Today our STRIVE classes showed off their job skills to parents, staff, and district administrators at our annual Vocational Open House. There was plenty of excitement, pride, and cookies to go around. We love being able to celebrate all of the truly amazing people that make this program special. Well done, interns and staff! December 12 is 'Black & Gold Day' in Avon

Town Council proclaimed that Friday, December 12, is 'Black & Gold Day' in the Town of Avon in honor of the triumphant season just completed by the Avon Marching Black & Gold.

Episode 106: Avon Marching Black & Gold Does It Again

To honor the Marching Black & Gold's state and grand national championships this season and their tradition of excellence, Dr. Wyndham has a conversation with Director Matt Harloff and AHS Seniors/Drum Majors Avery McDavid and Daniel Rieger.

Yellowstone Trip

Are you interested in learning about plants and animals in Yellowstone National Park? Ms. Kern will be taking students to study bison, wolves, bears, elk, and other species and their interactions with their environment in the Rocky Mountains.

We will also see geysers and other features of this volcanic system, do lots of hiking, and float in a hot spring!

There will be a student and parent meeting for the Fall Break, 2026 trip on Tuesday, December 9th at 6pm in B204. Enter through door 5. Scan the QR code on one of the flyers around the school for more information.

Students Stand Out at Journalism Convention

Avon High School students traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to participate in the Fall National High School Journalism Convention, hosted by the Journalism Education Association. Two students earned prestigious awards.

Celebrating Construction's Conclusion

With the opening of the Evergreen/Willow playground at the end of fall break, our school corporation's long season of renovation, expansion, and construction officially came to a conclusion. It is certainly worth celebrating. 

AHS Hosts Huge Speech & Debate Tournament

Avon High School Speech and Debate team recently hosted one of the largest tournaments in Indiana, welcoming more than 600 students from 36 high schools across the state.

Enter the Avon Optimist Club's Oratorical Contest

"The moment I realized I belonged — my definition of community" is the theme for the 2025-26 Avon Optimist Club's Oratorical Contest. The contest is open to any student under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2025.

Model UN Chicago Trip

Attention Model UN Delegates headed to Chicago in February: Your permission slip and $130 payment are due by Tuesday, November 25. Bring them to our Thursday meetings after school in C107 or drop them off on Mrs. Hoffman's desk in the OEC.

Register for the Half Notes Show Choir Workshop

Students grades 1-6 can sign up to participate in a one-day show choir workshop — featuring the Avon Accents Show Choir — ending with a halftime performance at an Avon Orioles basketball game.

Meet Your 18x State Champions

Congratulations to the Avon Marching Black & Gold. Last weekend, they won their astonishing 18th — and third consecutive — Indiana State School Music Association State Championship.

Save the Date: 2026 Transition Fair

The 2026 Transition Fair is coming up on March 3, 2026. This interactive event is designed for families with children of all ages who have special needs.

Launching into the last weekend before Fall Break— the final countdown is on! Mr. Shartzer sported his astronaut gear as he lead the Applied Earth Space class in an Egg Drop. Administrators, teachers, and students alike enjoyed the festivities and watching this hands-on group learning experience take flight.

Model UN Weekly Meetings

Avon's Model UN team will be meeting every Thursday after school in C107 to prepare for the Speedway and Chicago Model UN conferences. Delegates who are headed to Speedway on December 13 or to Chicago on February 5 should plan to attend as many Thursday meetings as possible. Stop by Dr. Lewis's room in D225 to pick up information and permission forms for both conferences. Even if you aren't going to a conference, come to club meetings to participate in fun Model UN conference simulations!

Yellowstone Expedition

Have you ever visited a National Park? Ms. Kern is leading a group to Yellowstone over fall break in 2026. If you join the expedition, you'll spend 9 days touring the park, learning about behaviors and populations of bison, wolves, amphibians, and bears. You'll collect data for park rangers to use and earn college credit. You will also hike in the mountains and valleys of Yellowstone, learn about the geothermal features like geysers, and relax in a hot spring. There is a parent meeting on Tuesday Nov. 11th at 6 pm in Ms. Kern's room, B204. Stop by and see her in B204 if you have any questions.

Trunk or Treat 2025

Trunk or Treat sponsored by Student Government is one of our favorite community events every year. AHS is able to offer over 60+ clubs to students because of referendum funds. What a great opportunity for our students. All donations given will be given to the Avon Education Foundation and the Mary Lee Maier Food Pantry.

Episode 103: The 2025 Alumni Episode

In this, the first of what will be an annual Avon alumni episode, Dr. Wyndham catches up with three Avon High School grads, individuals who excelled in academics, arts, and athletics during their time in Avon and who are continuing to do great things in college and beyond.

Cross Country State

The boys and girls cross country teams are headed to the State Finals! The boys came away as Regional runners-up on Saturday, only 24 points behind Carmel for the win. The boys were led by All-Regional honors from Quinn Murray, Elroe Tafese, Colin Packer, and Mitchell Ford. The girls came in rated seventh in the Regional but finished fourth to punch their ticket, as Alena Wigger and Ella Staton earned All-Regional honors as well. The boys will race at noon on Saturday and the girls will race at 1:00 at the Lavern Gibson Championship cross country course in Terre Haute.

Attend the AHS Roborioles Pickleball Tournament

Register your team and bounce over to Avon High School to support the Roborioles by participating in a double-elimination pickleball tournament for all ages and skill levels on November 15.

Students to Represent AHS in 2026 All-State Choirs

Thirteen Avon High School Choir students have earned spots among top Hoosier vocalists. Two will represent AHS in the 2026 Indiana All-State Show Choir. And 11 will represent AHS in the 2026 Indiana All-State Choir. Bravo!

Avon Step Team Tryouts

The Avon Step Team is holding tryouts on October 9th from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm for anyone who is interested in auditioning for the team for basketball season. This will be a one-day tryout; you will learn a short segment of step choreography and will be assessed on your learning speed, control, and execution of the choreography. Please wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes. If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Griffin or Mrs. Purifoy-Jack.

4H Open House

Hello!

Hendricks County 4-H is hosting an Open House on Sunday, November 9th from 3-5pm at the HC 4-H Fairgrounds. Students and their families are invited to join and learn more about all 4-H has to offer!

Celebrating Orioles - September, 2025

At their September meeting, the Avon Board of School Trustees celebrated some outstanding Orioles from AMS South and an AHS student who recently received an outstanding honor for her charity work.

2026 National Merit Commended Students

We are excited to celebrate with Avon High School upon word that 13 students earned the distinction of being named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Matt Shockley Sees Clear Results

They have provided an annual report regarding how [2018 Operating Referendum] funds have been used. And I think the community can be proud. ... Interact Shoe Drive Meeting

Interact Club Members, please join us right after school this Thursday in L101 Lecture Hall as we present more service opportunities and organize shoes for our Changing Footprints shoe drive. Remember to bring any gently used shoes you wish to donate and drop off at any entrance door on Thursday morning. Interact leaders in bright blue shirts will be there to collect. If we bring in over 100 pairs of shoes, popsicles will be served at the meeting! New members are always welcome.

AHS Juniors Care & Seniors Kickback

An annual tradition at Avon High School, on Thursday, September 11, more than 800 juniors and the entire senior class participated in Junior Day of Caring and Senior Kickback.

80 Avon Band Students Make INpact

Eighty Avon Band students in grades 7-9 recently joined more than 1,000 young musicians from across Indiana to perform in the 2025 Drum Corps International INpact Band.

All Avon K-12 students have the opportunity to begin each day filled up and ready to learn. Our schools serve breakfast each morning for just $2.15.

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation provides quality individualized services to enhance and support people with disabilities to prepare for, obtain, or retain employment. All parents of seniors with an IEP or 504 are encouraged to attend this meeting.

Coach Rob Gibson has been named the Colts Coach of the Week. The football team enjoyed a visit from Mike Prior, the Youth Football Commissioner at the Indianapolis Colts.

Avon High School has always had a high graduation rate, but the class of 2025 broke the record for the all-time highest. This spring, 98.4% of AHS students graduated. How was AHS able to achieve such a high mark?

Model UN First Meeting

The Model UN club will be meeting after school on Thursday, August 28th in their New location C107. There was a large and enthusiastic turn out at the call out meeting, and this conference room will be a perfect location for Model UN meetings. Come learn how to represent a country in a collaboration team! The meeting is from 3:15 pm -4:30 pm. Stay as long as you can.

The 2018 Referendum & Standardized Test Scores

In 2012, Avon Schools ranked 16 out of 292 Indiana school corporations on standardized testing results. In the following years, our state rank fell 39 places to 55th in the state. In 2018, when the community supported the Operating Referendum, test scores rebounded immediately.

AHS Wins HCC Sportsmanship Award

In the spring, the Avon Orioles were named the Sportsmanship Award winners by their fellow Hoosier Crossroads Conference schools. This is the first time AHS has earned this award since 2016.

Aerial Orioles Compete in Nationals

This summer, four Avon Aerial Orioles competed at the American Jump Rope Federation National Championships in Sioux Falls. Anna Koehlinger, Lauren Klein, Vivian Ford, and Olivia Koehlinger each did a fantastic job and represented Avon well.

Alternate Graduation

AHS's Disc Golf State Champions

The Avon Disc Golf Club took home the state championship earlier this month after a dramatic three-way playoff at Boylan Acres. Avon pulled ahead in the playoff to secure another title.

Avon's State Champion Orchestra

The Avon High School Symphony Orchestra won the 2025 Indiana State Championship, their fourth state title since 2018. Bravo!

2025 Art Show

Please join us for the annual AHS Student Art Exhibit on Thursday, May 8th from 5:30 pm -7:30 pm. Student works from all art courses at AHS will be on display in the Door 1 and lower D hall commons.

In addition to the art show there will be a silent auction featuring over forty artworks created by National Art Honor Society members. The silent auction bidding will end at 7:10 pm.

Calleigh Neal, Academic All Star

AHS senior Calleigh Neal earned a spot among the top 40 Indiana high school seniors and was honored as an Indiana Academic All Star at a ceremony hosted by the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Advanced Mathematics

Avon High School Advanced Mathematics students competed in the Indiana University-Indianapolis State Mathematics Contest this semester and captured second place and the Spirit Award. Leading the way for AHS were junior AP Calculus AB students Omar Saleh, Alex Serbezov, and Diego Stanis Farias and sophomore College Algebra II student Jonas Eklou. This marks the 12th time in the past 15 years that Avon has finished either first or second in this state-wide competition.

AHS Media Students Win 7 National Awards

Avon High School Media students traveled to Seattle to participate in this year's Journalism Education Association's National High School Journalism Convention. They flew back to Avon with arms full of national awards.

Indoor Winds Breeze Thru State & World Competitions

Once again, the Avon Indoor Winds completed the season as State and World Champions. Avon Drumline also brought home a State Championship and an impressive 4th-place finish at the World Championships. 

HOSA Students Advance to Nationals

Forty-nine AHS students attended the Indiana State Leadership Conference for HOSA-Future Health Professionals. Five qualified to compete at HOSA's International Leadership Conference in June.

Final Interact Club Meeting

Join us for the last Interact Club meeting of the school year right after school on Thursday, April 24th in the L101 Lecture Hall. We will recap and celebrate what a great year of service we have had and enjoy a popsicle party.

Legislators Honor AHS Senior at Statehouse

This AHS senior has been busy. Her most recent adventure took her to the Indiana Statehouse, where Senator Brett Clark and Representative Greg Steuerwald honored her.

AHS Senior Wins Prestigious IHSAA Scholarship

An Avon High School senior earned the distinction of being one of only 12 Indiana seniors to win a 2025 IHSAA Eugene C. Cato Memorial Scholarship for her impact on the court, in the classroom, and around the community.

Sherlock Holmes

This year's spring play, Sherlock Holmes and the Baker Street Irregulars, is Friday and Saturday, April 25th and 26th, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, April 27th, at 3:00 pm in the auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Cap and Gown Pickup

Today is the day seniors pick up graduation cap and gowns during SRT and lunches. Pickup in the Auditorium. All other items you ordered will be mailed home.

Avon Choir Auditions

Want to be a part of our State Championship Choir Program? Choir try-outs are starting this week. We have show and concert choirs that you can be a part of! No experience is necessary, because there is a place for everyone in our choir department! If you are interested in show choir, the dance audition workshop is Wednesday, April 9th from 3:15-4:15 p.m. in the choir room and the actual audition is Thursday, April 10th at 6:00 p.m. If you cannot make those dates, message Mrs. Trigg to set up another time to audition. AHS Seniors Advance in Optimist Contests

AHS Speech, Repeat State Champions

The AHS Speech Team won its second consecutive Indiana 3A State Championship yesterday! It was a tremendous team effort, with 21 semi-finalists and 14 finalists.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America recently held its annual State Leadership Conference, and we are excited to share that our students earned an impressive two bronze, five silver, and one gold medal.

AHS Open House Draws a Crowd

Speech & Debate Sends 11 Students to Nationals

On Saturday, March 1, the Avon High School Speech and Debate team qualified 11 competitors for the national tournament, which takes place in June. Additionally, our team won the District Team Sweepstakes and the Leading Chapter Award.

Varsity Dance Team Brings Home State Championship

The Avon High School Varsity Dance Team brought home the 2025 AAA Varsity State Championship from the IHSDTA State Finals. Varsity Jazz placed 4th. JV Pom was State Runner Up and placed 3rd in Hip Hop.

An AHS senior is Indiana's Distinguished Young Woman, the first AHS student to win this honor. As our Hoosier representative, she will advance to participate in the national competition this summer in Alabama.

AHS Robotics Sends 4 Teams to State

After an exciting qualifying tournament, all four Avon High School Robotics teams are going to the state championship match in early March. AHS is the only school in the state with numerous teams qualified for the tournament.

AHS Speech Team Wins 4th Consecutive Sectional

The Avon High School Speech Team won their 4th consecutive Speech Sectional Championship on Saturday, February 22. The team competes Saturday at IU Columbus to qualify students for Nationals. State Finals are Saturday, March 1, at Fishers High School.

Avon Rotary Speech Contest Participants & Results

Seven Avon High School students competed in the Annual Avon Rotary Speech Contest on Tuesday, January 21, and the top three finishers will move on to compete at the Rotary District 6560 competition on February 8.

AHS Senior Chosen as US Senate Youth Delegate

Roborioles Take the Lead

AHS Disc Golf Team Wins State

The Avon High School Disc Golf Club competed in the Indiana High School Disc Golf State Championships on May 5. The team of 20 members sent eight players to compete and was crowned best team in the state.

A 'Scary Good' Art Partnership

On April 10-12, 20 of Avon High School's Project Lead The Way Biomedical Science students attended the Indiana State HOSA Leadership Conference. Two students placed first, two placed second, two placed third, and multiple students finished in the top 10 in their disciplines.

Recently, Dr. Wyndham had a conversation with two clarinetists from the AHS Band. Betty Barding was a member of the first Avon Band and graduated in 1954. Abbi Churchill plays clarinet in the Marching Black and Gold and Indoor Winds and will graduate this May.

Student Wins Optimist Oratorical District Competition

An Avon High School student advanced to the Indiana South District Optimist Oratorical Finals based on her presentation on the topic of 'How to Change the World with Optimism'. She will compete at the District Finals in April.

AHS Speech Wins First State Championship

The Avon High School Speech Team made history on March 9. For the first time in school history, Avon is the 3A Indiana Speech Team State Champion. In addition, three competitors won state championships in their individual events.

DECA Students Shine at State

Three Avon High School DECA students brought home state championships this month. They'll be joined by 10 additional teammates at the international competition from April 27 to May 1 in Anaheim, California.

Dance Team Wins 4th Consecutive State Title

The Avon High School Dance Team had a great season this year! Our large ensemble won their 4th consecutive State Championship title, and our Small and Junior Ensembles were State-Runner ups.

Young Men Making a Difference

A group of a dozen young men from Avon High School gathered early Thursday morning with Principal Matt Shockley, district administrators, civic leaders, business owners, religious leaders, and hundreds of good neighbors from across the county to participate in Men IN Action READ.

Rioux for the Win

The Avon Board of School Trustees issued a Commendation honoring Avon High School senior Luke Rioux for his IHSAA Wrestling State Championship. Luke is the sixth wrestler in the program's history to bring home an individual state championship.

Orioles Drink Milk

With help from the drum corps, student government, cheerleaders, the Oriole mascot, Avon Food Services, and school/district administrators, representatives from the American Dairy Association Indiana and the Indianapolis Colts launched National School Breakfast Week with a celebration at AHS on Monday, May 4.

Meet Your '24 Sectional Champions!

The Avon Orioles boys basketball team is on a roll. This weekend, they defeated both Terre Haute South (61-45) and Terre Haute North (49-41) to claim the school's fourth Sectional title. They advance to compete in Regionals on March 9. Go Orioles!

Debate Students Perform Well at State

The Avon High School Team finished in 8th place at the State Debate tournament in Kokomo. This is the third year in a row that the debate team has finished in the top 10 at State.

Avon Musicians Earn Awards at ISSMA Contest

Media Students Travel to Boston, Bring Back Awards

Twenty-two AHS Media students — members of the yearbook, newspaper, and broadcasting teams — traveled to Boston to compete with students from across the nation at the National High School Journalism Convention and they were rewarded for their efforts.

Two AHS Musicians are All-State

Two Avon High School musicians auditioned and made it into the 2024 Indiana All-State Orchestra, indicating that they are among the most talented high school players in the state. They will rehearse and perform at the Indiana Music Educator's Convention in January.

Avon Marching Black & Gold are State Champions

The Avon Marching Black & Gold are once again Indiana State Champions. They were crowned at the culmination of last weekend's ISSMA Marching Band State Finals competition at Lucas Oil Stadium. This is AMBG's 16th State Championship.

AHS Earns AP Honors

College Board admitted AHS to the 2023 AP School Honor Roll "for developing an AP program that creates a college-going culture and gives students opportunities to earn college credit and to maximize their college outcomes" and awarded AHS the 2023 AP Access Award "for ensuring AP coursework is equally available to students no matter their backgrounds."

AIM Meeting

Hey, mentors!

We will have a short meeting on the first day back after break (Monday, October 23rd) in A112 after school to finalize Trunk-or-Treat. Our theme is “The Lorax.” We need decorations for the booth and candy/sticker/trinket donations from members. We need members to set up, dress up and pass out candy, and tear down. It’s fine if you can only help for part of the time. Setup will begin after school. Sensory hour starts at 5:30. Tear down will start at about 8:20 p.m.

43 Years of Teaching at AHS

AHS has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2023 by the U.S. Department of Education based overall academic performance. Students and staff at Avon High School received an unordinary interruption to their school day on Wednesday. A huge thunderstorm moved through the area at noon causing 25-year-old systems at AHS to become overwhelmed.
