AHS Student is IHSAA's First High School Intern

Avon High School senior Ana Acosta has been a mainstay in the studio and on the sidelines since she started attending Lauren Tauer's Broadcasting class. The skills she's honed at AHS have helped her become the first-ever high-school-aged intern at the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), where she's been working this semester.

"They typically have college interns," says Tauer, "but this year they accepted their first high school intern!"

Tauer notes that Acosta has been involved in a wide variety of projects during her internship. She's edited the girls basketball state finals and she's working on a massive project, a highlight reel compiled from girls basketball state finals between 1985 and 2024. She even got to work on the sidelines for the football state finals.

Acosta says, "I got to go to Lucas Oil Stadium for the IHSAA state football championships. I got to go into the press box and observe. I even got to go on the field. It felt unreal — it was humongous."

Acosta has no plans to stop acquiring new skills and experiences in the broadcast journalism realm. After graduation, she will attend Ball State University where she will study Sports Media and Sports Reporting.

Congratulations, Ana. We're excited to see you fly!
