AHS Students Practice the Art of Conversation

AHS Students Practice the Art of Conversation

Do you have the skill and confidence to hold a conversation with an adult?

That's the question that has driven Linda Langford's Speech students over the last few weeks as they've dedicated their class time to the art of conversation. This week, her students gathered in the Avon High School library with about a dozen community and business leaders — ranging from Dr. Wyndham and members of the Avon Board of School Trustees to entrepreneurs, nonprofit executives, attorneys, pastors, state agency employees, teachers, and more — to put their new skills into action. After introductions, students approached guests, broke the ice, and enjoyed conversations about a wide range of topics for the remainder of the period.

It's awesome to see AHS students getting such a practical, real-life lesson in the art of forming and maintaining strong, genuine, and productive connections. It will serve them well. And, who knows? Perhaps some of the personal connections formed this week will blossom into friendships, mentoring opportunities, and connections that help our community grow even stronger and more unified.

Great job, students. Thank you, community leaders, for participating!

Shout out to Speech student Andrew Onochie. He didn't know he'd end up documenting the event when he shared his interest in photography with this author. See below. He got some fantastic shots!
