Celebrating Orioles - April '23

The Avon Board of School Trustees had a full agenda at their April 10, 2023, meeting. Before they got to the business items on the agenda, they issued five commendations recognizing recent outstanding accomplishments of several Avon High School students.

• Faith White won first place in Human Resources at the Indiana DECA competition.
• Zaniab Syed placed first, along with Katherine Langford, in Marketing Management at the Indiana DECA competition.
• In addition to her DECA feat, Katherine Langford became the third debater in Indiana Congressional Debate history to win an Indiana Congress Individual State Championship.
• Liam Hoffman brought home a state championship for International Extemporaneous from the Indiana State Speech Competition.
• Abraham Barrington produced a chapter commercial for the AHS program that won first place at the Indiana State JAG competition.
• Neva Verbik won Outstanding Senior, which is the most prestigious award JAG gives. She is headed to Orlando to represent Avon High School in the national JAG competition.
• Esther Bankole-Brown received first place for Employability Skills at the State JAG competition.
• Maryam Beg was commended for being the first AHS student to win a state championship at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters.
