Journalism Students Win Recognition

Earlier this month, 20 Avon High School Journalism students travelled to St. Louis for the 2022 Fall Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association National High School Journalism Convention.

While in attendance, students participated in the National Student Media Contests and seven students earned the following recognition:

  • Martha Abraham: News Editing/Current Events/Headline, Superior
  • Zoe Benson: Feature Writing, Honorable Mention
  • Aspen Crowe: Commentary Writing, Honorable Mention
  • Addison Jackson: Broadcast Package, Honorable Mention
  • Wyatt Maher: Broadcast Package, Honorable Mention
  • Sophie Schick: Broadcast Anchor, Excellent
  • Cameron Thompson: Yearbook Sports Copy/Caption, Honorable Mention

"Any recognition is a big deal," said AHS Broadcasting Teacher Lauren Tauer. "Not everyone gets a ranking. We are so proud of these students. We all plan to attend again next year in Boston."

According to the JEA website, "In all, 1,119 students competed in photo, broadcast, graphic design, literary magazine, design and writing contests. There were 510 students recognized with 75 superior, 168 excellent and 266 honorable mention awards."

We are proud of you, students! Keep up the excellent work.
