Meet Avon Academy's New Coordinator

Meet Avon Academy's New Coordinator

Avon High School Principal Matt Shockley shared the following update with AHS employees on October 10.

At [the October] school board meeting, AHS Assistant Principal Kellie Rodkey was approved as the administrator of our district’s new alternative school. As you may remember, Avon and Brownsburg have partnered for several years to sustain the Harris Academy, an alternative school setting for students who need a smaller and more personalized environment to graduate. In the 2023-24 school year, Avon will open its own alternative setting similar to Harris Academy called the Avon Simon Youth Academy (ASYA). It will be located on the first floor of the current ACSC Administrative Center. Plans are in motion for that space to undergo renovation to host ASYA by July 2023.

Kellie has been on the ground floor of the research and development for the Academy. She has visited several programs, investigated a partnership with the Simon Youth Foundation, and presented several times to our school board about the vision for the Academy. Kellie has a passion for students who face significant obstacles to academic success. I am thrilled about this next chapter in her leadership journey, and she will be such an asset to AHS, its students, and their families in this new role. Kellie will begin her duties in January to allow her time to hire staff and work out the details to lift off ASYA by the 2023-24 school year.

As a result, an assistant principal vacancy was posted today, and I look to fill this position soon. The person hired for this vacancy will begin in January 2023.

Please congratulate Kellie as the leader of the Avon Simon Youth Academy!
