Middle School Musicians to Make an INpact This Weekend

Middle School Musicians to Make an INpact This Weekend

by Jeremy Basso

Last spring, about 100 Avon Middle School North and South band and color guard students applied to be a part of the Drum Corps International INpact Honor Band. The INpact band is made up of over 500 middle school band students (grades 7-9) from around the state of Indiana. We're proud to report that 47 students from Avon were accepted into the group this year and will be performing several times this upcoming weekend in downtown Indianapolis.

Friday night at 7:30, the group will perform on Monument Circle during the 'Shine a Light on Music Education' event.

On Saturday, the group performs twice. First, they perform at 2:10 pm on the north side of Lucas Oil Stadium at the Sound Sport International Music & Food Festival. Their final performance is at 5:40 pm for the opening ceremonies of the Drum Corps International World Championship Finals.

We will also have 15 current or former Avon High School students and 15 Avon Band instructors/designers involved in the DCI World Championships as performers, instructors, or event coordinators this weekend! It is truly a great showing for Avon at Marching Music's Major League!

Thank you, Jeremy, for the update. Congratulations, students and staff!
