Original AHS Gymnasium Bleachers to be Replaced

Removal and replacement of the Avon High School gymnasium's original bleachers is scheduled to get underway this week, marking the official start to a project to 'expand the experience' for AHS students.

The AHS gymnasium has been the site of countless buzzer beaters, hotly-contested matches, student gatherings, job fairs, community events, and much more in the nearly 30 years since 'the new high school' opened. The bleacher systems — home, away, main floor, and balcony — have been there for it all. But like many objects, they have a useful lifespan. While they continue to pass safety inspections, it is becoming increasingly difficult to fix damages that occur from regular wear and tear and to keep the bleachers in working order.

On Friday, September 18, work will begin to remove the original bleachers and to replace them with new ones. Project completion is targeted for early December. In the meantime, the Athletic and Physical Education teams will maximize the use of the auxiliary gymnasium and fieldhouse for games, practices, classes, and special events.
