I just wanted to provide everyone with an update from Avon Athletics from the busy weekend of February 21-23.

Wrestling

On Saturday Nathan Rioux was crowned the 126 lb. State Champion. This title was previously held by his brother, 2024 AHS grad, Luke Rioux. What a way to cap off an excellent Junior season by Nate!

Junior Mason Goelz finished 2nd in the state at 120 lbs. after an incredible state finals run.

Freshman Case Bridge finished 3rd in the state at 106 lbs. to cap off an excellent season.

Senior Seth Syra finished the season with a 39-2 record and finished 5th in the state at 150 lbs.

Head Coach Alex Johns' Orioles finished 4th in the State last night. Congrats to Coach, his staff, and all of our wrestlers on an outstanding season!

Boys Swim

Boys Swim traveled to Terre Haute on Saturday and walked away with a 2nd place team finish. We had some excellent swims by a number of young men yesterday.

Sectional Champions include the following:

  • Ethan Miller in the 200 Free and 500 Free
  • Drew Younie in the 200 IM and 100 Back
  • Ethan Jennings in the 50 and 100 Free
  • The 400 Free Relay Team of Ethan Jennings, Ethan Miller, Michael Zhou and Drew Younie.

These young men will represent AHS at the Swimming and Diving State Finals next weekend.

Boys Basketball

Our #2 ranked boys' basketball team dropped a tough game in overtime to #9 Noblesville. The team finished 2nd in the HCC behind #1 ranked Fishers.

The Orioles will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday evening.

Avon High School will host the Boys Basketball Sectional this year. Dates for the Sectional are March 4, 7, and 8. The Sectional field includes Avon, Ben Davis, Brownsburg, Pike, and Plainfield. It should be one of the top sectionals in the state, and we are excited to host it this year.

Congratulations, AHS athletes and coaches, on this incredible weekend of results!
