Sophomore Among Top Vocalists in US

This summer, Avon High School sophomore Sophia Jimenez Butcher participated in The Songbook Academy as one of 40 extraordinary young singers from across the United States.

"My week at The Songbook Academy was one of the most incredible experiences of my life." Sophia Jimenez Butcher

Sophia distinguished herself during a difficult rehearsal process, joining participants from 29 cities and 13 states. She had the opportunity to perform twice with her fellow participants: at the Songbook Showcase on July 16 and the Songbook Academy in Concert on July 18. She was one of the nine participants selected to perform her solo at The Songbook Academy in Concert, becoming the first AHS student to achieve this honor.

"Learning from famous music industry professionals and some of America’s most talented young singers was truly an honor," said Sophia. "I’m so grateful for the memories I’ve made with the Songbook Academy family that will stay with me for years to come."

A press release from The Songbook Academy states that the experience is "a weeklong summer intensive that immerses young performers in the gold standard of storytelling through song and helps them develop as artists under the guidance of Broadway stars, entertainment professionals and leading arts educators."

Sophia's participation in this program is certainly a reflection of her talent and hard work. It also illustrates the growing success of Avon's choir program.

"This is a huge honor," Says AHS Director of Choirs Leah Trigg. "We have had many Avon students participate in the past, and we are so proud that she was also able to represent the Avon Choir Department and Avon Community Schools."

Brava, Sophia!
