Hello, my name is Bob and I am the head custodian at Avon High School. I have been with Avon schools since 2013 and moved up to lead in 2020. The COVID pandemic was in full swing and things were changing by the day. With the help of my excellent crew, we were able to adapt and stay on course.

We have three shifts that handle the school day and extra curricular activities that occur every night. We are on campus 24/7.

First shift crew has the responsibility of helping to direct traffic in the morning and afternoons, lunch duty for three lunches, unloading deliveries, distributions of packages that are delivered and any service called upon throughout the day. That could include moving things to cleaning up spills and messes left behind. The crew also cleans the outside of the building area, west and east support building and baseball, softball concessions and restrooms.

The second shift crew comes in after the students have gone home, which gives them time to clean, straighten and sanitize each classroom for the next day. They also take care of the after school activities; from stetting up for club meetings, games in the main gym, aux gyms and fieldhouse, to banquets, plays and musical shows, group meetings parties and even going downtown to bring back all of the equipment used for graduation in May. They are called on a lot to assist in the evenings.

The third shift comes in at 10:30pm and will work through the night with the big job of taking care of all the athletics, choir, band and orchestra rooms, art rooms and all the areas that are used during the evening hours. The crowds are gone and what is left is the clean up and restoration of the are for use the next day. Come the end of their shift, those areas will be clean and ready.

The high school is a big school and growing by 160,000 square foot by 2025. I have a good, reliable, professional crew that does their best each day serving the school. I think with the excellent crew we have we will be able to take on the new challenges ahead of us.

As far as a career goes: "If I wasn't working here, I could totally see myself working in a mirror factory."
