Summer Construction Update
by Mikey Rawlinson
It's hard to believe that in just a few weeks, the new OASIS wing will be occupied by students at Avon High School.
Windows are going in, painting is complete, terrazzo floors are poured and a multitude of other trades are finalizing their work.
The same is true at the transportation facility and administration building. As a reminder, the second floor of the transportation facility is being remodeled and will house several of our staff that are currently located in the administration building. In addition, food service will also be relocated from their temporary location in the maintenance facility to their permanent home in the transportation facility.
Some of you may be asking, "why did they move the portable classroom at Pine Tree?" Well, a sewer line needs to be installed on the north side of the building. As it turned out, the portable classroom was in the way.
Once the sewer line is installed, the portable will be relocated near is old location until the new classrooms are completed. Both additions under construction at Pine Tre are scheduled to be done by December of this year and may be occupied in January 2024.
As most are aware, we are also planning construction of a new middle school on the property just south of Prestwick. Since the project has a very tight time-line you will likely see dirt being moved sometime in September.
The intent is to have the building completed for the 2025-2026 school year. Once completed, there will no longer be any intermediate schools. The grade configurations will be K-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
Obviously, a lot of changes await us in the coming years. Fortunately, we have an administrative team, spearheaded by Dr. Wyndham, who are up to the task.
Wishing all of you an enjoyable summer.... Mikey
