Expanding The Experience

Avon Schools had been engaged in a yearslong project of 'Making Room for More' at Avon High School up until the moment Principal Matt Shockley cut the ribbon on July 21, 2025.

This project provided vital updates to 25-year-old mechanical systems and structures, widened crowded corridors, and — most importantly — expanded the physical footprint of the school to provide the academic spaces that would enable AHS to serve a rapidly growing student enrollment.

Now that students have had the necessary space to build on their academic successes, they need room to expand their experiences beyond the walls of their classrooms.

It's time to Expand the Experience.

Just as the aging AHS facility required updates and expansion, the campus requires thoughtful attention. The Marching Black & Gold and Oriole athletic programs have surged in participation since the majority of their rehearsal/practice and competition spaces were built nearly 30 years ago. They're simply not large or numerous enough to support participation. Further, aging bleachers with irreplaceable parts, fields that are too-often unplayable, small locker rooms with insufficient facilities, cramped training rooms, and overcrowded multipurpose spaces are all realities that must be addressed.

In the summer of 2026, Avon Schools district leaders and AHS administrators began a process of community and stakeholder engagement that involved students, coaches, parents, and community members. The goal is to create a campus master plan that will guide thoughtful, strategic renovation and expansion — Expanding the Experience for Avon High School students.
