Phase Completed

The Phase 1 addition will house Avon's OASIS program on the first floor. This self-contained special education program provides opportunities for students who benefit from smaller class sizes and more focused attention from educators. The second floor of the addition will house four Art and Science labs as well as collaboration space for students and educators.

Target completion date: July, 2023

Major components of Phase 1

• OASIS program classrooms, secure entrance, support space
• OASIS visitor and staff parking; bus drop-off and pick-up
• OASIS outdoor recreation area
• 2 Science labs and 2 Art labs
• Staff and student collaboration space and workroom
• Additional central plant heating and cooling system capacity
• Replace 2 natatorium air handling units
• Replace 4 water heaters; add 2 water heaters
• New water softener for south end of building
• Increase bus parking capacity and improve traffic flow.

Phase 2 will include new construction on the west and south sides of Avon High School.

To alleviate major parking and traffic issues at the current entrance on the north side of the building, a new entrance will be built at the northwest corner of the building. This new main entrance will be a focal point for the community, and it will welcome guests as they move from their parking places in a reconfigured west lot into new centralized office space for administrators, guidance, and student services. 

The focus of the south addition will be to provide ample space for fitness classes and a new wrestling room. (The current wrestling room will be transitioned into space for our growing dance program.) AHS Physical Education students and student-athletes regularly utilize all available spaces (including hallways) around the current weight room — by far the smallest of all Hoosier Crossroads Conference schools  — because there isn't sufficient square footage in the weight room to contain all scheduled classes and conditioning. Finally, our tennis courts, which need to be rebuilt due to age and significant cracks, will be demolished to make room for parking. New tennis courts will be built elsewhere. 

The final component of Phase 2 is a reconfiguration of the northeast entrance and parking lot. The improvements in this area will facilitate traffic flow on and off the campus, especially for buses.  The target completion date for this part of the project is Summer 2024.

Because Avon High School is approaching 25 years old, critical structures, systems, and finishes require updates. Phase 3 will involve renovations on the majority of the current facility and additions to provide additional classroom and Performing Arts space.
